New York Fashion Week recently wrapped its fall-winter 2016 runway shows, and there was plenty to take in for the upcoming autumn season. So what’s trending for fall? Top designers like Alexander Wang, Calvin Klein and Marc Jacobs spotlighted everything from plaid to colorful furs on the runway. Take a look at the four top trends from NYFW fall 2016 below.

Rad Plaid

Calvin Klein Fall / Winter 2016

Plaid made a resurgence on the New York Fashion Week runways, and designers gave the trend their very own twist. Gone are the days when plaid is just for grunge and rock and roll styles. With Calvin Klein Collection, creative director Francisco Costa gave a ladylike interpretation with loose-fitting dresses belted at the waist and featuring asymmetrical hemlines.

DKNY Fall / Winter 2016

Rad Plaid–Public School’s Dao-Yi Chow and Maxwell Osborne’s made their sophomore outing with DKNY’s fall-winter 2016 collection. A selection of street style ready looks was accented by jackets in plaid for an edgy take on the print.

Victoria Beckahm Fall / Winter 2016

Rad Plaid—Victoria Beckham has shown an evolution of her personal style with her namesake brand, and for the fall-winter 2016 season, Beckham created a collection that walked the line between the masculine and feminine. The designer explored the check print with large and miniature variations.

Coach Fall / Winter 2016

Rad Plaid—Coach 1941’s fall 2016 collection took on the plaid trend as well. Creative director Stuart Vevers channeled high school style with an outing of varsity jackets, A-line skirts and studded accessories.

Ralph Lauren Fall / Winter 2016

At New York Fashion Week, designers gave a velvet touch to the fall-winter 2016 collections. From casual pants to full-on evening wear glamour, the fabrication makes a comeback for the upcoming season. Ahead of his label’s 50th anniversary, Ralph Lauren took on the trend with impressive gowns in colorful hues.

Wrapped in Velvet—Lacoste’s Felipe Oliveira Baptista was inspired by luxe ski wear for the brand’s fall-winter 2016 collection. The designer used the velvet trend with casual track suits that are a chic way to stay cozy.

Wrapped in Velvet–With his fall 2016 collection, Jason Wu moved his woman in a more street wear direction with loose and youthful shapes. Wu used velvet on slinky separates for gamine chic.

Marc Jacobs Fall / Winter 2016

Wrapped in Velvet—Marc Jacobs’ fall 2016 runway collection was all about eclectic style–calling back looks from previous seasons as well as looking to the future. We love this slouchy velvet dress that is serving gothic vibes.

Proenza Schouler Fall / Winter 2016

Many New York designers embraced patent leather as fabric choice for coats with the fall 2016 season. We’re talking about everything from naval style pieces to dramatic trenches. At Proenza Schouler, designers Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez created a collection that used the theme of “control and release” including tailored patent leather coats.

Glossy Leather Coats—Tommy Hilfiger went nautical with his fall 2016 collection. His take on the patent leather coat trend featured military inspired cuts decorated with emblems and stripes.

Whether real or faux fur, these outerwear looks are sure to grab attention with a variety of hues and color-blocking. At Oscar de la Renta, Peter Copping brought some ladylike appeal with belted, bell-shaped furs.
